Immortal Episode

“Song of the Sea”

One winter day when they were having big catches of Alaska pollacks in the East Sea of Korea, President Kim Il Sung called a Cabinet official on the phone to tell him to transport the fish in time so that even those living in far-off regions including Jagang and Ryanggang provinces could have fresh fish. Then, he asked to let him know news of pollack catching often. We will have caught hundreds of thousands of fish if we continue to work like this from the season of hard-finned sandfish, the leader said happily.
Presently, he asked an official who was present on the occasion what the next line after the one of “We go fishing in an empty boat, but.” Hearing the answer that it was “We return with a big catch,” which was part of the lyric of a song, President Kim Il Sung chuckled pleasantly. Then, he began to sing the song quietly.

We go fishing in an empty boat,
But we return with a big catch.

The official felt as if he could see the wharves filled with mountains of fish and homes supplied with a good deal of fish thanks to the care of the President. And he was moved to learn anew the painstaking efforts of the leader for the good of the people.
